Sometimes when the weather has been as awful as it has been here these past few days, I just have to remind myself that winter really can be beautiful. (As usual, please click through on the Source links to see more wonderful images by these photographers).

You can't remind me too often.
I was driving to badminton on Monday night (starting 15 miles from my girlfriends' place) when the gusts of wind blew snow across my path most of the time. I plodded on, as it was a 5-lane highway that didn't require plowing (yet) and wasn't busy at 6:45 pm; it was just the snow coming at us and drifting across.
My girlfriend and I couldn't believe that there was a car going slowly, and two cars directly behind it with only a car length between each, and the final two cars with their four-way flashers on. I whipped by them going 39 kph (24 mph) - in an 80 kph (50 mph) zone - making sure I was in the second/middle lanes, but astounded that they weren't going any faster (as I didn't realize a car could GO that slowly, LOL). We neither one considered that I was driving "unsafely" in order to do so, and in fact commented on how unsafe each of THEM were driving (especially the last two cars).
They probably thought *I* was the unsafe driver, but I had travelled that highway for decades and just followed the signs on the right of the road, knowing how big the shoulders and lanes were (and there were dozens of vehicles that passed US going much faster)!
I always think that a snowy Winter looks beautiful, but I think I would hate to live with it.
Laney4, I hate driving in snow! Fortunately, they're very good about clearing the roads around here, but these past few days it's been too cold for the salt to be effective.
Mary, it can be beautiful in small doses. Lately we've been having large doses, a bit more winter than I like.
