Fog is Beautiful, Amazing, Dangerous...

How often has this happened? You're driving along in the early morning or at dusk when the road dips into a valley and you drive into wisps of fog (or worse, heavy fog)? Sometimes it only lasts for a few minutes. Sometimes, when the conditions are right, you may be driving for a long time through the cottony mist that wreaks havoc with your ability to see the side of the road, signs, turnoffs, pedestrians, wildlife or other cars. It's a white-knuckle trip and a relief when you drive out of the vision-stealing stuff.

Fog can be powerful and frightening, and it's been used many times in novels and movies to create atmosphere, a sense of impending doom, a sense of danger. What version of any Jack the Ripper-themed movie fails to include fog? The inability to see the evil hiding in its depths creates automatic terror.

But despite its dangers, fog can also be incredibly beautiful and moving and awe inspiring. Watch the two videos below. Isn't fog amazing?

I love walking through the fog. Safer then driving that's for sure.

I think I would love walking in the fog, but Illinois is mostly flat (the plains), so we don't often get fog the way the coastal areas do. And if we do, it's usually so early in the morning that I miss it, despite being an early riser.
