Christmas Movies: It Wouldn't be Christmas Without Them

It's the Christmas season, and while I watch lots of movies year round, I watch more movies at Christmas (and the week following) than at any other time of year. I'm just talking general "movies" here, but movies that are actually about Christmas or that feature Christmas in some way are the best during the lead-up to the holiday.

I'm still a sucker for the old Christmas specials (a relative who shall remain unnamed suggested that it was time to retire some of the older ones, but...no! I love the nostalgia of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer). I suppose that we all have our favorites. Here's a video that pulls together clips from (mostly) more recent Christmas movies.

And here are some more traditional movies and specials.

So, what are your favorite Christmas movies or specials? I think mine is the Alastair Sim version of A Christmas Carol (originally titled Scrooge). But it was a difficult choice to make. There are so many that I enjoy watching again and again.

If you asked my husband, it would have to be Home Alone. He has watched it so many times I have lost count.
I suppose mine would be the original Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Loved Santa in that one. I don't watch Christmas movies (or movies at all, for that matter) very often. I'm too far behind on my other shows....

Elaine, I think I'm the only person in the world who has never seen Home Alone. Someday...

I love to watch the Muppet version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Clever & funny.

Mary, that's one of my favorites, too (love the Muppets). I watched the Lady Gaga/Muppets special the other night, but it just wasn't the same. The voices of the two old guys and Kermit are so obviously different from the originals (I so miss Jim Henson).
