Planting Flowers in Winter

A few years ago, a friend who was involved in a gardening club told us about sowing seeds in winter using milk jug containers, something that had worked for her. Mind you, we live in zone 5b, and it's cold and snowy in winter here.

I've never tried this method, but this winter is proving to be such a trial that I'm already longing for spring, so I just might give it a whirl. Here's a link to my favorite set of instructions (from a gardener who also lives in a 5b zone and offers suggestions for plants that do well under these conditions).
