What's the value of new experiences and new knowledge?
We've all heard that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, and it's easy to fall into that mindset. Unfortunately, doing so almost becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. So I love it when I hear about an older person opening their heart and mind to new experiences. The video below, titled Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks was a 2008 Tropfest NY finalist.
A recent study found that learning new skills, ones that forced them to remain actively engaged, showed improvements in memory. I love that, the thought that going out and forcing myself to learn something that will no doubt prove either useful or enjoyable can also be beneficial in improving memory.
I hope so. There are so many new things that I'd love to learn. So, what new things have your tried recently? Whatever they are, enjoy!

Was just hired for another part-time job (this time outside the home), so I'll be learning new computer programs starting next week. Wish I could sound excited about it, but right now I'm just exhausted from the whirlwind interview process, combined with a snowstorm from you-know-where, where there were numerous accidents (no fatalities, thankfully) that closed down major roads. Throw in a funeral visitation for a neighbour's mom Thursday night in town, a funeral visitation for a good friend's mom Friday afternoon where we had to find minor roads on which to travel over an hour each way, grocery shopping for the week on the way home, a ton of snow falling right now (at 3 am my time, as I hit the sack at 8:30 pm totally exhausted and am now doing laundry till I can go back to sleep), and a funeral over an hour away at 11 am Saturday morning - and I'm a tad overwhelmed at the moment. TTYL, Myrna....
Laney4, I'm so very sorry for all the rough and demanding stuff going on in your life right now. Keeping you in my thoughts. Stay safe on those roads. I hope you can get some rest soon!
